Ratios express a relationship between One Part and The Whole,

or between Two Parts.


The ratio is expressed using a colon. The colon looks like :

and the number of the whole separated with a colon.

The ratio of squares to all shapes is 2:9

There are 2 squares in every whole of 9 parts





The ratio is read as parts in total or parts to total
